Description:
Let’s get out in nature! Start your weekend with a casual trail run up the famous Wy’East (Mt. Hood) lead by Ultramarathon Trail Runner, Coach Nick Tyree. The “run” will start with us meeting outside of Timberline Lodge and starting at 8am sharp. We will use the Mountaineer Trail #798 winding our way up to the Top of Palmer Chairlift, a solid 2.5miles with roughly 2,600ft of elevation gain. Enjoying beautiful views and breaking a sweat, the climb will include lots of power hiking with some slow run intervals mixed in. What comes up must come down, we then enjoy the 2.5mile decent back to refresh at Timberline Lodge. We estimate the run to take about 90minutes to complete.

Total Run Stats: 5 miles, 2600ft of elevation gain, estimated 1.5hrs to complete, LOTS of up close views of Mt. Hood.

Recommendations – Weather conditions can vary greatly in the mountains. This time of year often brings warm temperatures and much of the area is exposed. It’s recommended to dress for warm weather while bringing layers in case of windy conditions or cooler temperatures. Sunblock is highly recommended since we will be much closer to the sun. To give you an idea of altitude, Timberline lodge is at 6000ft, and Palmer is at 8,540ft. It is recommended you carry a minimum of 32oz of water for this run, though more is preferred. Water sources can be unpredictable and unreliable in the later summer months. A running vest to hold your gear is recommended.

What to make a trip of it?

Don’t feel like making the 90min drive morning of? There are plenty of great camping sites and accommodations on the way and at Timberline Lodge. There are lots of great food options on the way to and back from Portland, like Mt. Hood Brewing Co. at Government Camp.
